Trees Along Semmes
If you have been wondering who was responsible for the new trees that are going up along Semmes Avenue wonder no more I found the answer on the Woodland Heights Yahoo Group;
I hope everyone has seen the new trees, sporting green watering bags, being planted along Semmes Ave by True Timber. When completed, we will have 46 trees along our gateway street, a mixture of varieties chosen by the WHCA (Woodland Heights Civic Association) Tree Committee including Chinese Elm, Ginkos,and Fruitless Sweet Gums (for large tree sites) and American Hophornbeam (Ironwood) and Chinese Pistache (for medium tree sites). The trees were purchased by WHCA through Richmond’s Adopt a Tree Program and paid for by WHCA dues and Holiday House Tour revenue. Since WHCA purchased the trees, we are responsible for caring for them, making sure they are watered, etc. The Tree Committee is developing a plan to accomplish this task as well as a proposal for tree planting on interior streets this year, perhaps through a homeowner subsidy incentive program.
Your WHCA dues ($15 per household) support neighborhood enrichment projects like this one and Historic District Designation.
Dues can be paid by sending a check for $15 made out to WHCA to WHCA, Box 8866, Richmond, VA 23225. You can also go to our web site, www.woodlandheightsva.org and use PayPal. Take a look at the new merchandise available on the web site–hunter green tote bag with the new WHCA logo ($3.25) and Woodland Heights and Forest Hill books ($5.00 each).
