Forest Hill Park Trailwork on RTD
The park was getting a makeover of sorts yesterday. Representatives from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and Friends of Forest Hill Park joined volunteers from Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Richmond and local high schools to build bridges, dig out new trails and cover up the old ones.
Nathan Burrell, trails manager for the city, said the trail system through the park needed to be redeveloped. Trails built years ago didn’t do much for the park’s ecosystem, he said. They ran up and down the hillsides so water and debris and leaves would follow those paths and go straight into the lake or streams and then out to the James River.
I am assuming this will be in the paper tomorrow since this work took place today.

Will post photos tomorrow.
Should be on the local tv tonight (Saturday)… a couple of the local stations made the scene, breathing hard from the climb back up, but they gave it a yeoman’s try.
Check their web sites, they may have posted something.
Got a couple of pictures too, nothing outstanding.
NBC12 had a story earlier today but no video on the website last I checked. Will check back in the morning. Have some photos and a nice write up from David Hathcock that I will post as well.
They left out M.O.R.E. in the list of organizations.
