Call for Spring Volunteers for Sierra Club

The Friends of the James Group, the local arm of the Sierra Club is looking for help and has a list of three events (besides their normal cleanups and other work) that they could use a hand with. The letter below was copied from their website.

Dear FOJG Volunteers, It that time of year again when I come asking for your help with three events:

Sunday, April 4th: Easter Parade: This Richmond tradition is replete with people, and often dogs, parading down Monument Avenue in their new Easter bonnets and other Easter attire. There are food and merchandise vendors, etc. This is a splendid event to introduce people to the Sierra Club and what we are doing. I hope you will be able to come to help at our booth and also to enjoy the festivities. We’ll be setting up the booth in late morning and will be there until about 5pm.

Sunday, April 25thm Earth Day Celebration and James River Fish Festival in Old Manchester:
Again this year’s event will be at the south end of Mayo Bridge on Hull Street Road between the James River and the Art Works building. While the venue is the same as previous years, there are many changes this year, including the fact that it is on Sunday. The budget is larger this year, there will be 4 bands, more green exhibitors, vendors, and activities. [For more information see the March/April newsletter at http://virginia.sieraclub.org/FOJ ] We will be setting up our booth in late morning and will be there until about 5pm or so.

U of R “BIG YARD SALE” RECYCLING EVENT
: This is both a major fund raiser and recycling event. We will need many people, trucks, vans, etc. to collect and sort all of the thousands of items discarded by UR students as they flee campus for summer vacation. Monday, May 10th is the main day for collection. If we have enough volunteers that day, much of the sorting and displaying of items can be done, too. The number of days we will need volunteers to sort the mountains of items collected depends on how many volunteers we have — many hands make quick work. We also will need lots of volunteers to help make the actual sale run smoothly on Friday evening and Saturday morning. All of this means we need your help!

If you know anyone else would like to help us, please recruit them! Please contact me by email at wsmith10000@yahoo.com to volunteer for any or all of the three events. You may also call me at 804 929-8233. Thank you for your help again this year!
