December 1: 1017 Hioaks Rd. (Three – Alarm FIRE)
OFFICERS CHRISTINA BENKAHLA, STEVEN GIBSON, TAYLOR GAINOUS, BLAKE LETCHFORD, ROBERT YANCY, MICHAEL KINIRY, KELLY MORLEY, RICHARD CHAPPELL, RICHARD KELLY, MERIDITH MULLINS, DEVIN MARKS, ELMER FERNANDEZ, BERNARD KENNY, MONICA POWELL, GRAHAM LANG, DETECTIVES AMOS JONES AND JACK LARRY, SERGEANTS JOHN WARD, JOHN STANTON, AND WILLIAM BRERETON.
The above police officers did an outstanding job during the above emergency incident, upon their arrival they encountered two residential apartment buildings engulfed in flames. They quickly and intelligently evacuated over 90 residents to safety, most were elderly and/or disabled. Many of the elderly residents were in wheelchairs or walkers and were not able to walk to safety on their own, the above officers carried many of the evacuees over 100 yards to safety. The scene was very chaotic because of bitterly cold temperatures, a raging fire and heavy smoke pouring out from the residential buildings. Once getting all residents to the staging area these officers than assisted with the loading of evacuees onto buses which took them to Chippenham Hospital, where a temporary shelter had been set up. The teamwork, professionalism, and courage exemplified by these officers serves as a great example to all.
