Problems Accessing Real Estate Info on City Website
1 Comment »The new city website is a great improvement but some people are having problems accessing the information.
The database that provides information on assessments, sales, or property characteristics is the most accessed site on the city system. At certain times it becomes overloaded and may not respond. Public access comes from a Data Warehouse Server that, at times, is being replenished with updated information from “live” servers, which may slow the system down. DIT has recently “rebalanced” server information to improve access speeds for all users. Persons who use the GIS “Parcel Mapper” overlay resource also increase the burden on the system. Citizens with older computers with inadequate capabilities may also experience problems.
On the back of our Notice of Assessment recently mailed to citizens, the referenced link (http://www.richmondgov.com/departments/assessor/) was changed to (http://www.richmondgov.com/Assessor/index.aspx) on the newly released city website. In this case, citizens should enter through the front page of the new city website and migrate to the correct link, most are doing this without help. This will be corrected on future mailings from this office.

This slowdown has happened before, usually right around assessment time.
