RTD on Resistance to Forest Hill Roadwork
I was unable to attend the public meeting so I can’t say whether or not this morning’s RTD article accurately captures the mood but it looks to me like another road project in our neighborhood is getting more resistance than support. The concerns that were reported;
- No plan for a traffic light at the intersection of Forest Hill and Rettig Road, one of three breaks in the proposed median where left turns would be allowed (the others would be at Windsorview Drive and at the entrance to Willow Oaks Country Club).
- An increase in U-turns because of the median, which would allow only right turns in and out of Glyndon Lane, Heartwood Road, Norcross Road and Woodberry Lane on the south side of Forest Hill.
- No plan for improving visibility for motorists turning onto Forest Hill at Melbourne Drive, just east of Hathaway. “It’s an accident waiting to happen,” said the Rev. H.D. Harman, who lives on Melbourne.
Did anyone attend that wants to share what they heard?

It would be great if they made that section a little more pedestrian and/or bike firendly by adding bike lanes or sidewalks.
About 25 residents attended the meeting, much of which was taken by briefings from the consulting engineers. There are two alternates under consideration. Both have sidwealks, curbs and gutters, bike lanes on each side and extensive landscaping. The difference is placement of the sidewalks in relation to the landscaping. The Martz article is accurate as to crossovers, turn lanes, etc. There was l;ittle opposition vopiced at the meeting from the majority of the attendees. The owner of an office building on the north side has concerns about entry into his building,. and the engineers on the spot agreed to make a change. There continues to be concern about visibility from one intersection, nearest the Masonic. Following the meeting, city officials said there was nothing in the presentation to cause or require a significant change in the plans or a delay. Funding continues to be the most significant drawback temple, as to whether there was sufficient current visibility for cars intering FH Avenue. On speaker is adamant that the lines of sight are not sufficient, although there is no record of any accideents at the site. The project actually does not address that situation, although drawings show improved turn radii at the location. The project does not reach as far west as the Hathaway Road intersection, a trouble spot. There were generalized comments about speed along FH Avenue
