Va. Leads the Way in Historic Districts
As the folks of Forest Hill work towards historic designation, the newly historic Woodland Heights is mentioned in the RTD this morning. For the eighth year in a row Virginia added more historic districts to the the historic register than any other state, including Woodland Heights.
Historic preservation is an economic driver and revitalization tool for the state, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said in a statement.
“Listing of historic districts and properties on the state and national registers promotes the rehabilitation of neighborhoods and enhances community pride,” he said.
Being on the national register allows property owners to seek federal rehabilitation tax credits to renovate old buildings. Those tax credits have been an economic boost to the state as they have contributed to the creation of construction jobs and the rehabilitation of old buildings, Jones said.
