5000 Block of New Kent Closed for Halloween

From the WHNA website: For the third year, the 5000 block of New Kent Road will be closed to vehicular traffic to help maintain a safe environment for the kids. The closure will be on Saturday, October 31, from around 5 p.m. to about 9 p.m.

That block has experienced high numbers of trick-or-treaters in recent years, so WHNA will assist in securing a street closing permit from the city.

By all accounts last year, the street closing successfully created a safer and calmer environment for neighbors and visitors. A concern that the closing might actually draw more visitors appeared not to be founded, since neighbors reported fewer trick-or-treaters last year than before. However, higher-than-usual turnout may occur this year because Halloween is on a Saturday.
