Richmond’s Oldest Frame House For Sale
The Patteson-Schutte house located at 5600 Westower Drive can be yours for $199,000.
The Patteson-Schutte House is one of Richmond’s oldest surviving structures. Historic Richmond Foundation purchased this property in March 2006 to save it from demolition. Completed in 1785, the house was originally the residence of James Patteson, overseer of a south side plantation owned by William Byrd III, son of the founder of Richmond. Having remained in the hands of descendants, the house retains many of its original Colonial features, including window frames, doors, flooring decorative ironwork, and original brickwork. [via]
I would love to live in a house with that history. If you buy it you need to have me over so I can check it out in detail. More information including photos and contact information can be found at the Preservation Virginia website. There is also a Wikipedia entry on the house. Thanks to John M. at CHPN for letting me know about this one.

Developer John Nolde and HRF deserve all the credit for saving the house. Has some great old trim and molding., Was in very bad condition several years ago, due to standing water in basement.
The graveyard for the family is on the opposite side if the street too. It’s amazing how large the granite blocks are that the walls of the graveyard are made from. I have taken an interest in this house myself as it has been on the market for awhile but as the previous poster said you would be taking on the responsibility for a one of a kind building that would require some serious maintainance having grown up in a log cabin in the northwestern part of the state myself.
