Firefighter Blog on Closures
Comment now »Thanks to John at CHPN for clueing me in on this new blog. Check it often and try not to have your house catch on fire during closure days.
Since the beginning of the 2009 – 2010 fiscal year, the Richmond Fire Department budget has experienced cuts that directly impact the amount of fire protection available on a daily basis to the City of Richmond. This blog is to serve as a place where information can be found regarding where daily cuts are occurring.
The Quint Companies (a combination fire engine and ladder truck) most often shut down are Quint 1 in Church Hill, Quint 10 in the Museum District and Quint 13 in Blackwell. These are most often shut down because they also house a Rescue Company. The problem with this is;
a Rescue company does not extinguish fires or have an aerial ladder on their apparatus. Fewer companies are able to respond, and will be traveling a greater distance to emergencies. As a result, fire protection throughout the city is greatly diminished, placing both the citizens and firefighters at a greater risk.
