Online Petition to Save Old & Historic Districts

Richmond City Council has recently formed the Commission of Architectural Review Task Force. The CAR Taskforce was established to review the process and guidelines of the Commission of Architectural Review. (Resolution No. 2009-R85-97) which oversees and approves any work being done on structures within the City of Richmond’s 14 Old & Historic Districts.

The CAR Taskforce will conduct a public hearing on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers on the 2nd Floor of City Hall. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive public input concerning the process used by CAR.

Laura Daab who was active in the move to have Church Hill designated an Old & Historic District has passed along to us an online petition to amend the current the CAR guidelines.

The petition is summed up best from the last paragraph.

Prioritizing compatibility over differentiation will promote architectural harmony and wholeness within the district and allow buildings and districts to evolve in accordance with their historic patterns and styles. The ultimate goal is to ensure continuity of character over time.
