Adopt a Tree Deadline Looms
Let’s face it trees are nice and in the Hills and Heights neighborhood we are blessed with more than our fair share of trees but we can always use some more. If you have space on your local street you can add to our local forest by adopting a tree from the city. You need to act fast though because the deadline for adoption is October 1st.
The process is simple. Go to this website and fill out the application. Watch the city plant the tree for you and set up the gator bag for your young tree. Next you have to water the tree for at least a couple of years so that it can become established. The last step is to sit back and enjoy the shade, oxygen and critters the tree gives back. This is an awesome program. I would encourage all who have the space in their yards to participate in this great program to do so. I did last year and was impressed. It’s only $50 and the City will plant a tree for you complete with an irrigation bag and mulch. It’s a great deal and great for the neighborhood!
Does the tree go anywhere in your yard or only between the sidewalk and curb as the other city trees do?
I agree that this is an awesome program. I believe that the city focuses on the curb strip, but I could be wrong. They choose appropriate sized trees for the location (mine is under a power line, so I had the choice of four shorter-growing trees, a variety of spring-blooming and fall-foliage-colors to choose from). The city arborist is a great guy, and this program is SUPER-DUPER!
