Sector 312 Crime Report Out

It feels like crime is on the upswing this month but last months numbers look pretty good. Commercial Robberies were down 75% from June 09, Burglary/B&E/Residential down 31% from June 09 and Theft from Motor Vehicle down 29% from June 09. Comparing this year to last year the picture isn’t as positive regarding property crime. July 2008 there were 71 property crimes. July 2009 there were 108 property crimes. The year to date comparison shows 582 in 2008 and 631 in 2009.

Violent crimes on the other hand have decreased 11 last year in July and 9 this year. Year to date that trend remains with a total of 76 to date in 2008 and we sit at 64 year to date right now.

Congratulations to Officer Benjamin Smith who was “Officer of the Month” for the 3rd Precint. Officer Benjamin Smith is the June 2009 – “Officer of the Month” for Third Precinct. For the month of June 2009, Officer Smith is had a productive month policing. He made 5 felony arrests, 2 misdemeanor arrests, executed 4 warrants, recovered 2 stolen autos, seized one oz. of marijuana. He also handled 61 radio calls and 11 sight calls. On 4 different occasions, Officer Smith volunteered to conduct surveillance in plainclothes.
