Not sure of the security needs, etc. but put a couple of those machines (that will take box shipments, sell stamps, etc) strategially around town and you can reduce even more post office branches. And as another fella said, no one goes there because it's always too crowded What we REALLY need is more pick-up boxes on the street corners, or at least re-locate the present ones to more accessible locations, drive up wise. That one the corner of New Kent and the Blvd is a nightmare, as is the one at the corner of J road and Forest Hill Ave. They both require you to get outa your car to access the service. They're closing it because overall mail volume is down. One tip I had is not to go on paydays because many people go to the post office for cashier checks and mail orders. The only time it is open when I can get there is on Saturday morning. Maybe if some of the branches had evening (even if only until 7 pm)hours they would have more business. I eventually just gave up, and I now use the Stuart Station one on Floyd, because the line is shorter.
