Police Shoot Wound Pitbull on 34th
From RTD:
A Richmond police officer shot a pit bull that escaped a South Side yard and attacked him this morning, but the dog will survive.
An officer on foot patrol reported being attacked about 10 a.m. by a pit bull that escaped a fenced yard on West 34th Street near Moody Avenue in Swansboro. The officer fired a shot at the dog, but police spokesman James Mercante said it was not seriously injured. The Richmond Division of Animal Control was tending to the dog, he said.
The officer was not injured in the attack.

If the dog had been something other than a “pit bull” would the office have shot him? Check out http://www.badrap.org for more information on these misunderstood, frequently abused dogs.
“If the dog had been something other than a “pit bull” would the officer have shot him?”
Here’s one answer to that question:

By way of disclaimer, in no way do I condone cops or anyone else shooting animals unless they or someone else is in danger of being harmed by that animal.
Since we only have the officers word for it, we have no way of knowing if that’s the case here or not. It would be interesting to see what the dog’s owner had to say.
But there is a much bigger issue here, and that is why are our police officers seemingly so consistently unable to hit what they are aiming at when they attempt to shoot these animals at point blank range?
Is it just my perception that this happens all too often.
I wonder what the stats are for these incidents?
