South of the James Farmer’s Market is #2
Richmond Magazine’s latest issue has the Best and Worst of Richmond. Our local farmer’s market came in 2nd to the 17th Street Farmer’s Market in the readers poll of The Best Farmer’s Market of Richmond. I don’t want to come across as a sore loser but I think we have a better Farmer’s Market. Yeah we don’t have the Shockoe Tomato Festival where we were unable to find a tomato sandwich. We only have a ton of diverse vendors that satisfy the hungry vegan or carnivore. Oh well, maybe next year. Kidding aside the emergence of Farmer’s Markets throughout the city is a good thing and each offers quality produce among other things to their respective communities and The Market Umbrella deserves a big thank you.
In the same online article editor Brandon Fox picks Nate’s Taco Truck for best takeout but doesn’t list that that Nate also shows up at South of the James Farmer’s Market on Saturday.
My newest favorite ready-made dinner, however, can be found in all of its infinite variety at Nate’s Taco Truck on Tuesdays at the Byrd House Market.
The online version is only a preview I’ll have to buy one to see if any other Hills and Heights locations make the list of Richmond’s Best or Worst.

Remember that 17th St is the beneficiary of constant city marketing. All we do is word of mouth and the blogs. Ours is a neighborhood market, whose word of mouth now reaches Northside, the West End and Chesterfield County. Remember, we have Amy Hicks, CCL, Blanchards Coffee, the Amish family, Thistledown Farm, and the egg roll lady. Who else can say that?
Who votes in these kind of things anyway? Not me. The South of the James FM obviously rules, in quality and variety and sustained popularity.
and parking!
[...] I bought the latest issue of Richmond Magazine and thought I would share some of the Southbank locations that made the various lists. You’ll need to purchase the magazine to see what the editors had to say and the many of lists that we didn’t make. My comments are in ( ). We already discussed the Farmer’s Market here. [...]
