Westover Hills Library Celebrates 50 years
Last night Westover Hills Library Advisory Group threw a party celebrating the library’s 50th anniversary. The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that Mayor Dwight Jones announced that the popular library will receive $660,000 in renovations, part of a system wide improvement plan. This sum will be augmented by fund-raising efforts of the Advisory Group. I believe the group will continue to be at the South of the James Market collecting donations. From the RTD article:
The library work, to begin next April, will provide a makeover to include new carpeting, bookshelves, paint, windows and furnishings. The library will also get new electrical wiring and a few more computers, something Dishon says is crucial, even for a relatively old-fashioned library.

Hoooray! My husband & I have recently started going to the library on a regular basis & the Westover Hills Library looks the exact same as it did when I was a kid, nothing has changed other than the computers! It’s excited that the library is getting a face lift!!
Thank you to everyone who has supported the library and the library advisory group.
Thank you to those who purchased raffle tickets, attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration, those who have already donated to make our library even better than it already is.
We are going to enjoy the market as customers rather than vendors for a little while.
Donation forms will be available at the library and we’ll be at ‘Sunday in the Park’ on the 19th.
Please also check out the original 1959 Opening pictures, Fisher Elementary drawings of the library and new renovated library plans on display at the library.
We would also like to especially thank Clay Dishon, David Hathcock, Greg Forman, Kathy Graziano and Mayor Jones for their support of our library.
And for those who enjoyed the Jazz at the library – please see the website of Carol Covell (Neighborhood resident) at carolcovell.com.
Could we / should we have regular live jazz at the library?
I would love regular live jazz, especially with all the jazz musicians living in the surrounding neighborhoods.
