James River Parks Gets Some Help

Two bits of goods news in relation to the James River both reported by the RTD here

The City Council has given the park system $100,000 to hire six seasonal workers to help with park maintenance through the end of the summer season and early fall, with the option of returning next spring when the need for help is greatest.

“It’s a big help,” said John R. Pope, director of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities.

and here.

Workers from two local companies, Riverside Outfitters and Truetimber Tree Service, cut logs from two spots in the James River in Richmond today.

The logs posed hazards to people who paddle and swim in the river. Sometimes called “strainers,” logs at or just below the surface can hold a person who can’t escape the force of the river’s rapids. People caught in strainers can drown.

The workers removed logs from spots beside Belle Isle and off Brown’s Island.
