Maymont Nature Center to Start Charging

According to RTD the Maymont Nature Center (you know the place with the otters) will start charging admission on July 7th. The fees will be $2 for children ages 4 to 12 and seniors ages 60 and older; $3 for those aged 13 to 59 little one under 4 are free as are Maymont Members. This is yet another good reason to buy a membership. A family membership is only $60 and gives you free access to the Nature Center and reduced prices on such events as the Night Hike. More details here. I know we will be renewing our lapsed membership soon.

“In the current global recession, Maymont is facing a serious budgetary challenge due to decreases in contributed and earned income, government support and endowment,” said Norman burns, executive director of the Maymont Foundation, which manages the 100-acre property for the city.

“At the same time, more and more people are visiting the park because it is free, but increased visitation adds additional costs to our strained resources.

“The small fee will help to offset some of those costs as Maymont continues to serve as a harbor of hope and diversion for those facing this current economic storm.
