Carjacking at 600 Westover Hills Blvd.

NBC 12 is reporting a carjacking that occurred early this morning.

It happened around 12:30 this morning at an apartment complex in Westover Hills.

She says she had just parked her car and was getting out when a man pointed a gun in her face and told her to get back in and drive.

She says he climbed in the backseat and forced her to drive around the city for more than three hours.

After being forced to drive to several ATMs the victim was released unharmed and the car stolen.

Police are looking for a white 1994 Acura Vigor with the first three letters “KFC” on the license plate. If you see a vehicle that matches that description or have any information, call Crime Stoppers 780-1000.

NBC promises more information on their broadcast at 5.

UPDATE: The crime took place in the 600 block of Westover Hills Blvd. There is video from the newscast is here.

I don’t think most of us consioder the apartments in the 600 block of WH Boulevard to be a part of the Westover Hills neighborhood. It certainly is not a part of the area of the neighborhood association boundaries as defined by the Department of Community Development. It’s not in the same city council or school board district.

Completely agree David. When the report first came out they gave no other information other than “Apartment complex in Westover Hills”. Once I had some updated information I should have changed the headline and have done so now. Although not in Westover Hills as defined by the city or community I do consider it part of the Hill and Heights boundaries.

    Thanks. We appreciate it.

This comment about the apartments “not being in Westover Hills” seems rather classist to me, a NIMBY ‘not in my back yard’ kind of attitude. I will accept that they may be outside the official boundaries, but really, the apartment residents live, dine, shop, and go to school in our neighborhood! This is a terrifying crime!

    Thanks Diana,

I agree completely with you. I live a few blocks south of Forest Hill and many within the ‘technical boundaries’ of Westover Hills or Forest Hill would not consider us to be in their ‘neighborhood’. But with friends in the apartment complex in question and in various areas of Forest Hill and Westover, I consider the area – as a whole – to be home. I check this website at least twice a day.

Thanks Richard H. for keeping us in the loop. We appreciate you. Just because something happens a few blocks away doesn’t mean that we aren’t affected.

No problem Will. Sometimes it is a bit of a challenge figuring out what is “Hills and Heights”, not so in this case. If you ever have some info. that you think your neighbors would like to have please drop me a line and I’ll get it posted.

I know there are PR concerns here, but when a crime has the potential to affect folks in any given area, I think it fair fodder for reportage.
PR should never be allowed to override public safety (even though it often does).

It’s not PR. It’s accurate reporting. The offense did not take place in Westover Hills. It did not take place in Church Hill, It did not take place in Windsor Farms or Fairfield Court. It took place in the 600 block of WH Blvd.

Upon reflection, it would indeed be more accurate to say this and other criminal acts that might require reportage took place in “our neightborhood” rather than “Westover Hills” specifically.

This would serve to alert the residents of the area of the dangers and yet not give the false impression that the acts are taking place within a very narrow and specific area.
