Family Movie Night in the Park Friday
The Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities will kick off a series of outdoor family movies to be held in parks and at community centers with āA Journey to the Center of the Earthā at Forest Hill Park. The outdoor movie is free and includes free popcorn and candy.
June 19, 8:30 p.m. ā 10 p.m.
D.C. used to (might still) show classics on the mall it was a great time. Take the blanket some food, perhaps a beverage of some sort and support this event.

Sounds like a good use of tax payer money to me!
C’mon, sarah, give us a smiley or something so we can tell whether you’re being facetious…
I just figure this is my “stormwater utility fee” being put to good use. It’s either movies I can go to or take-home cars to Fredericksburg.
where can we find more information on other movies to be shown this summer?
Good question Jason. I have sent an email into the Park’s department. Will post here when I know more.
thanks, i also sent an email and will report back if i hear anything!
I think it’s another way of getting residents into and loving the parks and thus supporting and helping them. Or, perhaps, they’re just trying to keep the mosquitoes well-fed! ;)
Jason and others interested in other movies nights. Just got an email back. Here is the official word: “The department plans to show movies in different parks and recreation centers throughout summer, however Iām waiting to receive the schedule.”
Once they know they said they will let me know. If I am reading this right it looks like it might only happen once at our park before moving on. If however we have a ton of people show up and a good time who knows what could happen.
Pine St. Baptist has been doing this in Pleasants Park for years. They recently showed Journey To The Center…

I am looking forward to it. I wish they would start a little earlier though. The little ones will sleep thru most of the movie, but then again maybe then we can enjoy it:)
This was a really fun event- LOTS of people in attendance- was very well run. It was late for little ones- but it really didn’t get dark enough to see the screen well until 8:30. Great event- great way to bring the park to life in a positive way at night. Thanks to the Parks Department. Hopefully they will have more at forest hill- they announced there would be more and ahven’t set schedule- didn’t mention which park. Forest Hill Park really is a perfect park for this.
Ditto to what Laura said. It was a fun, relaxed event and the Parks staff was really friendly, asking if we got some of the free popcorn. It was like being at a drive-in movie without the cars! Hope there will be more movies at FHP!
Please come to Jefferson Park tonight (Thu July 2nd) to see Madagascar- Escape 2 Africa. Starts at about 8:30. We love folks to come see the most beautiful skyline view of the City– sunsets in Jefferson Park (8:35 tonite) are magnificent!!
