Richmondgov.com down Due to Battery Explosion

Did you try to access the government site for Richmond? Last night I wanted to see if Dogwood Dell was the site for the fireworks I heard last night, but the city’s website couldn’t be found at all and today I was greeted with server messages. The RT-D is reporting that a battery explosion in the basement is the culprit.

A battery exploded in the basement of Richmond City Hall Saturday morning causing smoke but little, if any, fire, said authorities.

Lt. Shawn Jones of the city fire department said the small explosion was reported at 7:47 a.m. The first firefighters on the scene were greeted by smoke but not any fire.

Jones said the firefighters were met at the scene by city employees and employees of a contractor that was performing unspecified, scheduled maintenance on “IT equipment.” The explosion did not cause any injuries.

Jones said he was told some city services might be affected by the incident but he had no further information.
