X-Terra Games This Weekend
Races of all sorts both Saturday and Sunday on Brown’s Island and parts of the James River Park system.

From the X-Terra website:
This is year 11 for the storied event first held in 1999 – and a decade later thousands of locals and XTERRA fanatics alike have their own tales of racing in the most unique, most profound urban adventure XTERRA ever created.
RTD conversation with last year’s champ here:
When I met him at the Reedy Creek entrance to the James River Park System, he’d already done one lap of the 29K course (swim is 1K, run is 11K). We took off on another. Out along the main JRPS trail, up the 42nd Street steps, along Buttermilk Trail toward the Nickel Bridge.
Needless to say, it was all I could do to keep up. We’d start conversations – maybe about the top competitors to watch for on Sunday — and then in a pedal stroke or two he’d be out of earshot. When I was able to stay with him, or when he let me catch up, I cobbled together a basic storyline: The men’s race, like virtually every one on the circuit, is Conrad Stoltz’s to lose.

What a disappointment. I was going to that event, but Riverrock staffers told me that the Dominion Riverrocks fesitval had taken it’s place because the city had the lost the rights to XTERRA due to issues last year.
