City Council Considering Commission on Trees
RTD is reporting that City Council is meeting today to consider forming a commission regarding the removal and planting of trees. Living in a part of the city with so many aging trees, this could be a valuable group of people.
The Richmond City Council will meet today to consider an amendment creating an Urban Forestry Commission to establish procedures for the maintenance and removal of trees on city property.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 900 E. Broad St.

Is the meeting open to the public? I hope they are not looking to cut the budget in that department, those guys do a very important job, and they are very knowledgeable, in my experience.
How many super large “aged” trees do you see on city property? Not sure how valuable this would be at all. Maybe they could borrow from the funds of the worthless street cleaning they perform.
Just for Cait: Every meeting of city council, and every meeting of its committees, are open to the public. Boring frequently, but open to the public.
Lesley, most of the big oak trees that are planted between the sidewalks and the roads in westover hills are actually city trees! The same is throughout the city. And although I’ve seen some new trees go up, many more seem to be taken down.
A commission would be great so that the urban forestry folks can get insight to what citizens want.
