Lucille Brown Students Win Awards

Several students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Programme at Lucille Brown Middle School earned impressive scores on the 2009 National Spanish Examinations.

Several students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Programme at Lucille Brown Middle School earned impressive scores on the 2009 National Spanish Examinations.

Topping the list was Molly Atkinson, who earned a silver medal by scoring in the 94th percentile. Three other students earned honorable mention recognition: Nicole Jackson, 62nd percentile; Sonia Blough, 71st percentile; and Eva Miller, 71st percentile.

The exams are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. More than 115,000 students took part in the 2009 exams, according to Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, national director of the exams.

This year marked the first time that Brown students have participated in the program. Keasia Macklin serves as their Spanish teacher at Brown.
