Armed Gunmen Burst into Westover Hills Home
NBC 12 is reporting that a home in the 800 block was the target of a home invasion late Thursday night.
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Two masked men kicked down a family’s door, demanded money, then threatened to kill the family. It happened late Thursday night in the 800 block of Westover Hills Boulevard.
“It’s uncommon in that area. It’s not a high crime area but I don’t want people to be comfortable thinking I’m not in a high crime area, that I shouldn’t be more careful in my area,” said Richmond Police Department Commander Odetta Johnson.
Police say at this point the crime appears to be random. They offer this tip if you find yourself in a similar situation.
“If its a case where you cant leave or you’re trapped its best to follow what they say. The first thing you want to do is save your life,” said Johnson.
Holy crap!! Thanks to megan for alerting me to this news. If we hear more, we’ll share with you.

They claim it is random, and it may be, but the fact that the gunmen went upstairs and dragged the 17yr old out of bed demanding to know “where the money is” makes it seem like they knew him and/or he owed them money.
A good reminder to everyone to check the screws on your deadbolts–years ago a Police officer came to my home & pointed out the tiny screws for my dead bolt lock was in trim, making a swift kick enough to get the door in. Now, they’re 4″ long and deep into the door frame, much harder to kick in.
If asked, RPD will provide you with a public safety audit, looking at things just like this to make mour home safer.

With all due respect to the police department, that was good advice ten years ago, but we’re facing a very different kind of thug today, as more than a few local headlines in the past couple of years have made more than clear.
