South of the James Market Opens May 2

I had to restrain myself from using multiple exclamation points in the headline. I really enjoy the SOJ market. There are so many yummy goodies and it brings together the neighborhood in a wonderful bed-headed way. Bring your reusable grocery bags and head down to the picnic shelters at Forest Hill Park from 8am to noon. Even meatatarians can find a lot to love! Check out the list of vendors or read the release from Kathy Graziano’s office who helps make this market a reality.

The ribbon comes down and the South of the James Market opens for business Saturday, May 2 at 8 am. More than 50 produce and food vendors have signed up, along with a long list of crafters. That to expect on this first market day: Salad, Arugula, spinach, boy choy, kale, radishes, turnips, beets, turnip greens, scallions, summer squash, herbs, tomato and other bedding plants, organic meats and eggs, Cavanna’s pasta and hot coffee. Jerky and smoked meats, THE PIE LADY!, baked goods including the Norwood Bakery.
See the website at www.themarketumbrella.com.

For the second year, the SOTJ is paid for by Council Member Kathy Graziano and the vendors fees.

I wish! I can’t get my tuckus out of the house that early! Gotta have some coffee and jammy time first!

I remember last year, when we didn’t know what to expect opening day. Many vendors had sold out by 10 am. So Page, wake up; it could be all gone by the time you get there.

hrmph. I guess I should make a special concession for the very first market of the year. Look at me already taking it for granted.
