Letters to Forest Hill Park Neighbors About Lake Dredging
With work scheduled to start any day now on the lake dredging at Forest Hill Park, letters were sent out to those most likely to be affected by the work.
The City has worked with the Contractor to develop plans to minimize the mess that may occur from the project-both within the park and within the neighborhood….Mud-hauling trucks will bring spoils from the lower park to a transfer area that will be set up behind the restrooms near Picnic Shelter # 1. A construction trailer will also be sited there. A temporary draining area with a sump pump and holding tank will collect water that drains out of the spoils. The material will then be transferred to a road truck that will proceed north down 42nd Street to Riverside Drive and then to the appointed landfill or spoil site.
Please know that the City is sensitive to limiting the impact on our neighborhood streets and we will continue to be in contact with them during the project. Operations at the park will begin on weekdays around 7:00 a.m. and will conclude around 5:00 p.m. Generally, Saturday work will not occur unless the project falls behind schedule, but in order to be done and out of the park as quickly as possible work on Saturdays could occur on a half day basis. No work is scheduled for Sundays.
All spring and summer programs are still scheduled to occur in the park! The Farmers Market will re-open near Shelter #2 on Saturday, May 2. Sunday in the Park with Friends is scheduled for July 19. And Music in the Park will again continue on selected summer Sunday evenings. The only part of the park that will be off-limits to visitors is the lower construction area.

Thanks to the Friends of Forest Hill Park for keeping the neighborhoods informed as this project goes forward.
I drove by the park mid-day and the “sludge staging area” is under construction! whoot! Which means the actual dredging work is not far behind from starting!
Yeah, I went by this afternoon and saw the fence behind the restrooms. I can see the work starting, so I can I finally allow myself to believe it! Hallelujah! Now if we could just work on slowing down the speeders on Forest Hill and Semmes…
We could all go down to the lake and take a bucket of mud as a souvenir.
I’ve never seen so much excitement over a sludge staging area in my life.
It doesn’t take much to make us happy.
I just hope steps will be taken to monitor and control any dust containing possibly dangerous materials from settling over the area and the children who play there.
Who knows what kind of stuff is buried in that muck after near 40 year.
