Local Resident Chimes in on City Budget
Hills and Heights resident and former school board candidate discusses the new city budget on his blog Jonathan Mallard. The sum of his post is that the budget is so vague that nobody can really see what is going on behind the magic curtain. He also provides two examples of states that are much more transparent.
Jonathan has a much better mind for numbers than I ever will and hopefully he will speak out some more in the coming weeks.

Jonathan posts frequently on the budget, and I very much wish he’d been able to gain a seat on the school board – but I suspect the people who supported Adria Graham Scott would prefer not to have a number-cruncher on the board. He pays waaaaaay too much attention to get much support from the professional politicians.
Thank you both for the kind words. If some more information becomes available, I will certainly look at it.
In the meantime, I hope more folks start asking to see, and looking for what lies behind the curtain.
Frankly, I think the reason people didn’t elect Mallard is his voice. The other candidates were lack-luster. Mr. Mallard, I commend you on your tact, devotion, and sincerity, but much like Art Burton or Paul Goldman, you seem to lack the charisma that winning a popularity contest requires. I’m sorry more people couldn’t recognize your potential, but genius often goes unrecognized.
