Incorrect Use of Fast Toll Lanes at Powhite Results in Fines.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – After several months of operation, drivers using the fast toll lanes on the Powhite Parkway are now starting to deal with the consequences of using them incorrectly.
But some drivers say the sensors on the EZ Pass lanes aren’t always accurate.
Jamie Hendrick drives through the toll plaza more than once a day. She says the sensors failed pick up her tag on six different instances over the past few months.
She and her husband are now facing more than $2,000 in fines and are having difficulty getting the court to hear their case.

This seems like an extreme case. Greg got a letter a few months ago that stated he owed 500.00 in fines. It also occurred on the fast lanes. He called the city, they looked up his ez pass account and as long as he was in good standing (had money on the ez pass) than she deemed it a mechanical issue. She also said that he needed a new ez pass because his was out dated and might be the cause for the fast lanes not picking it up. She then had him pay the toll and that was that…easy peasy. It sounds like these people might need to talk to someone else downtown.
The article was pretty clear in saying that this was an unusual case, but it definitely warrants keeping an eye out and staying on top of stuff. I sometimes ignore the ezpass envelopes thinking that i don’t need to look. not any more!
