Return of the Foam
The RTD has this breaking news, apparently the mysterious non-toxic foam is back.
A strange white foam that periodically shows up on the James River made an appearance again this morning.
Blocks of foam up to the size of beer coolers dotted the river just below the Huguenot Bridge, then dissipated around mid-day, said Ralph White, manager of Richmond’s James River Park system.
The state Department of Environmental Quality doesn’t seem concerned.
“We concluded as long as there is no environmental problem, we don’t have the resources to look further,” said Bill Hayden, a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Quality.
Anybody have any theories?

I saw the foam a few Saturdays ago at about 7am all along the south bank of the James when I was crossing the Huguenot Bridge. I saw the foam up and down the bank, as far as I could see from the bridge. It was a foggy morning, but I doubt that contributed to the foam.
At one time I thought it was run off from paving projects on Rt 150, but I don’t think there was any paving going on that week. Let’s hope it is as harmless as they say.
Anyone check upstream golf courses on what they are doing with fertilizer?
Check James River Correctional Center at Maidens, or Woman’s prison at Goochland. They were the sources before.
