Toad’s Place Will the Show Go On?

Reading conflicting reports this morning on the state of this weekend’s shows. The RTD is saying not likely and Richmond BizSense is saying likely. The Richmond BizSense article is definitely better researched and gives some excellent insight into what it takes to run a musical venue. Snippets from both below. Richmond BizSense article here. Richmond BizSense:

The shows must go on, however. A handful of local media outlets have reported that the locks were changed and a note taped to the door that read, “serious default in rental payment and other obligations.”  But Bill Kennedy, who owns the record shop BK Music in Midlothian, said that he talked with Toad’s Place representatives Tuesday morning and that they assured him that the shows were going ahead as scheduled. BK Music is still selling tickets to Toad’s Place concerts. Busta Rhymes and Maceo Parker are slated to play this weekend.

RTD:

Margaret Freund, owner of Fulton Hill Properties and the landlord of the live-music venue on Richmond’s Canal Walk, said last night that the company is exploring transitions for ownership of the music haven.

“We are working diligently to get something in place to allow some things on the schedule to go forward. But I’m not sure if we can get it worked out in time for the shows this weekend,” Freund said.
