Community taking pride in James River Park
Here’s a follow up story to this one posted Wednesday that goes into more detail about last weekend’s joint volunteer venture between JROC, Richmond MORE, and Friends of James River Park.
It’s easy to forget, walking along the trails of the James River Park System, that 150 years ago this was an area of intense industry. Rock quarries, water-powered grist mills and saw mills dotted the riverbank.
Now, mountain bikers, bird watchers, runners, dog walkers, hikers, anglers and many others come to spend time in a sliver of urban wild….
Saturday morning, volunteers from three groups – Richmond Mid-Atlantic Off Road Enthusiasts, James River Outdoor Coalition and Friends of the James River Park – joined forces for the first time to put the finishing touches on a new section of the Buttermilk Trail south of the River, just east of the Nickel Bridge.
