As the Charter Turns…

There had been some rumblings to this effect, but Style’s article was the first confirmation I’d seen that Denise Lewis (aka Principal Lewis @ Lucille Brown) was indeed no longer on the PH Charter board. The article suggests that internal pressure might have led to the resignation, while RPS, of course, denies such a thing.

True drama or manufactured controversy? You be the judge.

    The silence is deafening.

    You ask:

“True drama or manufactured controversy? You be the judge.”

    Answer this:

Why would some of the School Board members — who were supposedly in favor of the charter — allow a contract to go forward that placed unreasonable timelines on the PHI people?

Why would these same board members — all the while professing to want the charter to succeed — remain silent when Keith West and Carol Wolf were insisting on a pblic discussion of the terms of the contract?

Could it be that some board members wanted to have it both ways, i.e., say that they supported the charter school, but set it up for a failure so that when it nose-dived, they would be in a position to stand around and say, “oh well, we tried…”

Why would some board members claim to want to increase African-American diversity in the school — and on the board of directors — then allow the administration to “politely” suggest to Denise Lewis that just maybe the time she would serve on the PHI charter project would get in the way of doing her primary job at Lucille Brown?

Everything is not what it seems to be on the surface. What is said is as important as what is not said. The silence is telling a story here that leaves most of us speechless …

Fighter- I think you are right on. At first I was angry with the 3 school board members who were absolutely against the PHI charter from day one. These three members have openly voiced opposition and have voted against it consistently and while I disrespect the reason they are against it, I do respect their consistency. At least we know where they stand.

Now I find that I am furious with the Benedict Arnolds on School Board. The ones who have voiced support while being fully aware of the problems with the contract. These school board members are the least respectible of all. Shame shame shame!! My school board member is Betsy Carr and her silence has spoken volumes to me.

Again. I ask for transparency. Who is brave enough to speak up and save our kids?
