A big Sunday
Forest Hill Park sees lots of activity on Sunday July 20th. From noon-4PM is the return of Sunday in the Park, followed immediately by the summer monthly Music in the Park Series, which runs until 6PM. All the details are below the fold.
Sunday in the Park is a free family-centered event designed to bring people together from across South Richmond for one great family picnic in the park. It’s down home, old-fashioned fun, with clowns from Clown Alley; live music by Tammi Kamen, Tinker’s Dam, and Corie Kelly and Friends; free food and drink; nature walks; history tours; eco-friendly exhibits; outdoor games; face-painting; a misting tent to keep tots cool; and so much more.
Sunday in the Park is co-sponsored by Friends of Forest Hill Park and 4th District Councilwoman Kathy Graziano with support from Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Verizon, Comcast, Dominion Virginia Power, Wal-Mart, Ukrop’s, Virginia Delegate Frank Hall, the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association, Westover Hills Neighborhood Association, Woodland Heights Civic Association, and Westover Merchants Association.
Sunday in the Park will be immediately followed by Music in the Park, featuring a bluegrass concert by the Sugar Hollow Ramblers from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Music in the Park is presented monthly from May to October by the Forest Hill, Westover Hills, and Woodland Heights neighborhood associations and the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities.
Interested in volunteering? Volunteers are needed to help with everything from slicing watermelon to supervising children in the misting tent. To volunteer, contact Robley Jones at 233-3748 or email RobleyJ@aol.com.

I love it that we have these events and are making good use of Forest Hill Park. But why are they always in the middle of the summer, when it’s hot, muggy and miserable?? Why not do more things like this in the spring and fall when it’s more tolerable to be outside?
Why don’t you get in touch with the Friends, or one of the neighborhood groupsl, and plan something.
Bill, first sentence: change “June” to “July.”
David-
I was in no way intending to denigrate the huge amount of work that goes into planning these events.
I just noticed that everything in Richmond is planned as though we all live in Maine and I find that strange.
Foust: We’re sensitive to the heat, too. That’s why we planned the “Music in the Park” series to run May-October (one concert per month.) The May & June dates were quite pleasant, and we’re hoping for the same in September & October. “A Day in the Park With Friends” has traditionally been held in July, so it makes sense to continue that as folks have come to expect it. The misting tent should help this year, too.
