Last night, Five people were held up at gunpoint on the 3000 block of Kensington Avenue after leaving dinner. There were three young men each having a gun, wearing dark clothes, and bandannas over their faces. They put the guns to the victims and demanded their money. Three of the victims were able to get in their car, and they tried to locate the criminals.
The three victims in their car spotted the men running to boulevard, and saw them get in a car. They got close enough to get the plate numbers, and came back to 3000 Kensington to talk to the police.
Apparently, these people lived near Westover Hills so that would explain the higher than usual patrols and the police helicopter.
This was very scary to me as I live on this block, and had walked by the very same place that they were robbed only 30 minutes before.
I did not add to the previous post that the three men did take everyone’s wallet and purse; however a few did manage to retain their cell phones to begin calling police.
The Richmond Police did an outstanding job of responding to this incident. Within 30 seconds there were about seven police cars outside of the house, and within five minutes, there were two K-9 units reporting to the scene. Kudos to the Richmond Police.
I’m glad to hear the idiots with the guns didn’t physically harm anyone. Also glad to hear about the police response.
Agreed.
Also – All 3 of the suspects were taken into custody early this morning.
Thanks for the info, Stephanie! That really hit home to me, as 3000 Kensington is a former residence of mine, and I loved that block. Glad nobody was hurt!
Let’s just hope they put these idiots away for a long time. I had the good fortune to get held up a few years ago in the fan, and I have a lot less patience for these creeps now.
