Wythe principal out
Monday’s T-D reported on George Wythe principal Parker Land’s resignation. “Health reasons” was the cited cause of Land’s resignation, but murmurs from within RPS suggest the 87 police calls to the school this year (including 2 for fights last week) are a more immediate reason, and that it was hardly a voluntary resignation.
Land was a main feature of a 2005 PBS documentary which profiled his attempt to turn things around at Boushall Middle School. The program, though a couple years old at this point, is still very relevant, and seems to have flown remarkably under the radar considering all of the hue and cry over the schools of late.

We watched that video at one of our staff meetings. It was funny and made me uncomfortable all at the same time.
i attend GWHS as a senior and I feel the publics’ views on the school is out rightly wrong. We receive so much negative comments but no one is stepping in to help. At George Wythe, we school the future’s next doctors, lawyers, politicians, and future president. I think that the media should stop noticing the bad things and take a step back to view the positive things. We are no different from the county kids so help us if we are so “bad”.
I’d say that there’s a pretty serious problem when someone with a high school education can’t construct an argument or compose a paragraph.
This is the time for not only the teachers, but also the parents to step up and take responcibility of the issues.I think it’s extremely ignorant to place judgment on something you nothing about.
In fact, were the not the worse school in richmond. We win competitions and have talent. The problem is we have to many people pointing fingers, and not enough people who are willing to do anything.Unless of course its running their mouth *we dont have the time* proudly, a honorbulldog
I love that the students are responding back; it shows an interest in the debate and pride in their school.
But, kids, it really takes away from your argument when your comments are full of misspellings and punctuation errors. First, type your comment in Word, spell check it, and edit it for punctuation. Then, copy and post it.
I’m not picking on you; the ability to write well will help you in many aspects of your life and future careers. I know you are all smart, but people will not take you seriously if you cannot properly write a paragraph.
Many of the problems we have or will have in RPS begin with the way leadership downtown and principals handle issues at the elementary level. Go to
