RPD spreading the word
A couple of readers have mentioned receiving automated phone calls from Richmond PD alerting residents to an increase in both automotive and residential break-ins. The messages seem to be targeting the area around Forest View Rescue Squad, even though the crime map doesn’t show too many in that area.

The message they left for me said “…an increase in breaking and entering in residences in sector 312″…, which I assume is my neighborhood, but don’t know for sure….

Maybe they’ll begin filling the always empty patrol cars at Forest Hill & Westover Hills with actual people. I can’t believe that fooled anyone for more than a day.
That empty patrol car is such a waste. I keep meaning to call the Lieutenant for our district and tell him it’s a worthless gesture, as it’s not slowing anybody down, but I figure, oh, he doesn’t care, which is why he parked that car there in the first place.
I’m not sure why anyone’s getting their tailfeathers in a knot over the car being parked there. It has to be parked *somewhere*, after all, and I don’t see that behind the precinct would be any better. If it fools one person, that’s better than none.
If you want to crab about something, ask the Lt to arrange a manned police car to monitor the Jahnke/Forest Hill light, or to run radar on Forest Hill between Jahnke and the park. Or have his police officers quit using their cell phones while they’re driving, as city policy directs.
