Mailbox explosions

Today’s T-D is reporting on two mailbox explosions, believed to be caused by homemade explosives, in the Cedarhurst neighborhood. I heard some distant “booms” last night around that time, but chalked it up to the McCrory’s demolition cleanup or general noisiness. Here’s hoping it’s nothing more than bored neighborhood kids.

The neighborhood is actually called Pineneedles. I’m with you, hoping it was just a random act by bored kids, but when the bomb squad is parked in your yard for several hours, it makes one seriously consider moving to the county.

I heard tonight the Postal Service is involved in the investigation since messing with mailboxes is a Federal crime. Having a mailbox at the end of my driveway, I’m thinking “Great, one more thing to worry about.”

Hey, Mary, there are bored teenagers taking chemistry in the county, too. As for the bomb squad, the city’s just dotting and crossing because they’re used to people shooting each other, not blowing up mailboxes.
