Westover Hills asks the Mayor

The latest “Ask the Mayor” feature on Richmond.com features a question on crime from a Westover Hills resident and a sort-of answer from the Mayor.

Q: I love living in the Westover Hills area, but what can we do about the criminal activity? The amount of crime is unnerving, from the numerous motor vehicle thefts to the hit-and-runs. What is the city doing to combat this?

Lynn Shipp
Westover Hills

A: Since the end of July, there has been no violent crime in Westover Hills and auto theft is down 66 percent. From late July through August, a number of robberies occurred in the Northrop neighborhood, mainly around the 400 to 600 blocks of Westover Hills Boulevard, and police officers met with apartment complex managers regarding additional public safety measures. Noah Rogers, of the Westover Hills Civic Association (358-8340, noahrogers@comcast.net), heads the Westover Hills Neighborhood Watch. He does an outstanding job of working with police and keeping citizens informed. I strongly encourage you to get involved as well. Our citizens continue to be our most valuable partners in the fight against crime.
