New townhouses coming?

Reader Mary received a postcard in the mail from Balzer & Associates advertising a meeting next Tuesday “to discuss the development proposal for residential townhouses on Bliley Road near its intersection with Forest Hill Ave.”

I’m not sure if this is the eastern or western side of the intersection, but since that big white house on the corner has been looking empty for a while now, I’d guess it’s the eastern side.

The meeting will take place Tuesday October 9, 7PM, at Bethany Christian Church, 5400 Forest Hill Ave.

Because the condo and townhouse market in Richmond is just booming right now…?

…to add to what Caitlin said, — and there isn’t enough high density housing already, one street east of Bliley, on Westtower?

I wonder if they’ve talked to the folks that cleared the lot in front of Redd Elementary? I think the boom has boomed…

I’ve had a couple other folks ask if I or a regular reader would be attending. I’ve got a prior commitment, but if anyone else attends and would like to summarize the events, please let me know!

I live in Forest Hill Farms and attended last Tuesday’s meeting. The developers are looking to build 60+ townhomes on about 10 acres between Bliley Road and Westower. The proposal includes extending Limerick Road to Bliley with private roads off Limerick.

The developer proposes townhomes with a small yard and a rear-loading garage with a price tag near $300,000. This project has not been before the City’s Community Development Department, so the meeting was to make local residents aware and allow them to voice their opinions. Of course, folks in attendance expressed a concern over traffic on Bliley Road (a perennial concern in our neighbhorhood) and construction work and trucks in the neighborhood.

The architects promised more meetings and updates as the development progresses.

Another neighborhood meeting with Balzer & Associates is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, “To discuss a development proposal for residential townhouses located on Bliley Road near its intersection with Forest Hill Avenue,” as promised by the architects last fall.

The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Bethany Christian Church on Forest Hill and begins at 7PM.

I’m interested in what they are going to say about the additional traffic ….

The City’s Dept. of Community Development shows that a preliminary CUP for this project was filed May 14.

Did the developers already purchase this property? If not, does anyone know who owns this property? If not, how can I find out that information?
    Thanks.

There is a city website that lists all property by address, and gives much relevant information. Go to Richmondgov.com; on the left side of the page, select assessments, then follow the instuctions. You will need the excat address of the parcels.

One caveat to ron’s comment – it can take some time (like, months) for the site to update once a property changes hands, unless that’s changed with the new system.

From the latest information I received from the developers, the property where the townhomes are to be built belongs to Hope Equity LLC. Another community meeting hosted by Balzer & Associates is scheduled for Tuesday, November 11, at 7 PM, again at Bethany Christian Church.
