Municipal Wi-Fi
You might have noticed a classified ad down below from richmondfreewifi.org, which is profiled in a Richmond.com piece today. I’d be curious to see what level of interest there is in the immediate area, especially in the Forest Hill/Westover Hills commercial strips…

That’s pretty cool. We don’t secure our wireless, so that if anybody wants to surf off it, they can. I don’t think anybody does, except maybe the teenagers next door…
I think it is a great idea, especially if it is a coordinated effort. The one problem is whether it is “legal” or not to officially share your connection with others. Apparently Speakeasy allows it, but not sure if Comcast (my ISP) does. Has anyone out there checked out the Comcast rules?
Comcast doesn’t openly frown on sharing for “free access” networks such as RFW, however, it is a violation of their TOS to share connections for profit generating schemes which is NOT RFW.
Hope this helps!
