James River Park gets some love
Kathy Graziano has set aside $2500 in discretionary funds towards a conservation easement for James River Parks.
Currently, there is no absolute protection from development for the Park. The easement will prohibit any type of commercial, industrial or residential development in James River Park, while allowing the Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities to continue to manage the Park as a wildlife and nature preserve.

I am still eager to see the promised restoration and dredging work done to this park. I guess this is something, but $2,500 is kind of a lamely small step.
Congratulations, people of Richmond, for taking care of your lovely James River Park that I have visited with my Richmond cousins. Our family once owned farms along the river from Scottsville to up past Lynchburg, and I hope to canoe or float the distance someday. I work with other parks advocates in Miami, FL. It is a constant battle with city government to protect & enhance our parks, but we are making progress. Best of luck with your endeavors!
I just saw Caitlin’s posting from last year. Caitlin, you are so funny. The $2500 was for James River Park. The restoration and dredging is for Forest Hill Park.
