April Real Estate report

Jeremy was nice enough to put together a brief real estate report for the general area.

For April our “Price Trend Analysis” showed there were only 1.93 months of inventory in the “Hills and Heights” Neighborhoods. This compares with 2.13 months of inventory in the Greater Richmond Metropolitan Area and a National Inventory level of a little over seven months for March (the latest figures available).

Read the whole report here.

Door to door sketchiness

Two polo-shirted guys with clipboards knocked on our door at about 9:30PM last night, claiming to be from Apex something-or-other and asking if I was the homeowner. I was too busy trying to calm the 90-pound Lab their knocking disturbed to inquire more about who they were or what they wanted, but 9:30 seemed a bit late to be conducting legitimate business. After I shut the door, I noticed they went across the street onto a neighbor’s porch before getting back in their car and driving off.

So you may want to keep an eye open for anything odd or suspicious. They could have been 100% legit, but something just seemed off about the whole thing. If they knocked on your door, I’m curious to hear what their spiel might have been.

More press for…

…the folks at Positive Vibe Cafe. NBC Nightly News will be (has been?) onsite this week to film the restaurant’s training sessions, to be featured on a later broadcast.

Woman hit by car

WRIC is reporting that a female pedestrian was hit by a car in the 700 Block of Westover Hills Blvd last night. I heard the sirens, but since I live on a major thoroughfare for emergency vehicles, it hardly phases me anymore.

No other media outlets appear to be reporting it at the moment…

Hit & Run

If you’ve noticed some police activity in the Forest View neighborhood, it’s likely due to a hit & run on W. 49th. If you see a burgundy Toyota Camry with front end damage, the police wouldn’t mind hearing from you.

Railroad death?

NBC12 is reporting that a body was found along the railroad tracks near the Nickel Bridge. No word whether it’s the north or south end, though.

Loupassi gets the GOP nod

Former City Councilman Manoli Loupassi will carry the Republican banner in the battle for the 68th House District. Though often referred to as being a Chesterfield district, the 68th stretches into the city, ending just east of Stratford Hills.

Mayor’s Town Hall tonight

The Mayor’s 4th District town hall is tonight, 7PM, at St. Luke Lutheran Church. I’m planning to attend, so if you can’t make it and have any specific questions you’d like to have answered, pass them along and I’ll see if I can work them in.

Video of the 2 previous district meetings can be found on the city website.

Town Hall Highlights

Good turnout at St. Luke’s tonight for the Mayor’s Town Hall meeting, with the likes of Kathy Graziano, Reva Trammell and Delegate Katherine Waddell in attendance. Not unexpectedly, a great deal of the evening concerned the Mayor’s relationship with the School Board/RPS administration. Also not unexpectedly, nothing new was revealed on that front. I was actually rather disappointed at the relatively low signal-to-noise ratio of the school-related discussion- a lot was said, but nothing was really said. I do not believe School Board Chairman/4th District Rep George Braxton was present.

The Week Ahead and an information request

After last week’s meetings w/ The Mayor, City Council, and other various groups, things calm down a bit this week. Bulk Item Pickup by the city and the Patrick Henry school initiative meeting headline the week.

Also, a couple of folks have asked for the contact information for the police officer who spoke about traffic at the mayor’s meeting last week. I had to take off before I could get his card- does anyone else happen to have that? Thanks in advance!

Out go the lights

We couldn’t help but notice several stoplights out this morning (Forest Hill & Bliley without stoplights gets Mad Max-like in a hurry), but weren’t aware of the full extent of the outages. Apparently most of the area between Stratford Hills and the Forest Hill railroad overpass was affected.

Shots fired?

Gunshots in the vicinity of Jahnke & Forest Hill? We heard several rounds, and the 911 operator said we weren’t the first to report it…

Several police, including one on a dirtbike (!), have been all over the neighborhood ever since.
